Is Turf Grown free for athletes?

Signing up is completely free — you can search, browse coaches, and read reviews at no cost. When you book a session, a 7% service fee is added to the coach's price. This covers platform development, customer support, and AI-powered training tools. The total price including the fee is always shown before you confirm.

How do I find a coach?

Use the search page to find coaches by zip code, sport, and distance. You can also search by coach name. Each coach profile shows their bio, sports, session types, pricing, reviews, and real-time availability.

How does booking work?

Once you find a coach, browse their calendar for open availability. Pick a date, select a session type, choose your time slot, and confirm. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or ACH bank transfer — all processed securely through Stripe.

What is the cancellation policy?

Each coach sets their own cancellation and no-show fee policies, which are displayed before you book. Generally, cancellations made 24+ hours in advance are free. If a coach cancels a session, you automatically receive a full refund.

What are Grow Plans?

Grow Plans are personalized training plans that your coach can assign to you. They include structured workouts with exercises, sets, reps, and video links. You can track your progress and check off exercises as you complete them — earning XP for each one.

How does the XP and leveling system work?

Every exercise you complete and every coached session you attend earns you XP across 6 skill categories. As you accumulate XP, you level up individual skills and your overall athlete level. Your progress is visualized with a radar chart showing your strengths across all categories.

What are training streaks?

When you train on consecutive days, you build a streak. Longer streaks unlock XP multipliers — so the more consistent you are, the more XP you earn per exercise and session. You can take up to one rest day between active days without breaking your streak.

Can I share my progress?

Yes! Your progress page has a share button that generates a shareable link with your level, skill breakdown, streak, and achievements. It includes a custom preview card that looks great when shared on social media or in messages.

Do I need to download an app?

Turf Grown works in your browser on any device — no download required. A native mobile app for iOS and Android is coming soon — stay tuned!

For Coaches

How much does it cost to be a coach on Turf Grown?

The core platform is completely free — create your profile, manage availability, accept payments, track athletes, and get booked. A 3% platform fee applies to bookings to cover payment processing and infrastructure (reduced to 1.5% on the Pro plan). If you want to build AI-powered Grow Plans for your athletes, subscribe to Starter ($9.99/mo) or Pro ($19.99/mo) with a 14-day free trial.

How do I get paid?

Athletes pay at the time of booking via Stripe and funds are held securely until the session is completed. Once you mark a session as done, your payout is transferred directly to your connected bank account. You set your own session prices and can offer different rates for different session types.

Can I set my own schedule?

Absolutely. You create availability slots for whenever you want to coach. Slots can be one-time or recurring. You choose your locations (turf), session types, pricing, and capacity.

What is the difference between Starter and Pro?

Both plans include unlimited scheduling, athlete management, a dashboard with analytics, and email/push notifications. Pro adds SMS notifications, more AI plan generations per month (8 vs 2), and longer plan durations (8 weeks vs 2 weeks).

Can I offer background-checked verification?

Yes. Coaches can optionally complete a background check through our Certn integration. A verified badge will appear on your profile and in search results, helping parents feel confident booking with you.

Will I receive a 1099 for tax purposes?

Yes. Coaches are independent contractors, not employees. If your payouts exceed $600 in a calendar year, Stripe will issue a 1099 form. You are responsible for reporting your coaching income and paying applicable self-employment and income taxes.

Do I need my own fields/locations?

You can add your own locations or adopt shared fields that other coaches have listed. The platform supports multiple locations with travel time management between them.

Is Turf Grown available in my area?

Turf Grown is available nationwide. We started in South Jersey and are growing across the country. If there aren't coaches in your area yet, spread the word — or sign up as a coach to be the first!

How do reviews work?

After a completed session, athletes can leave a star rating and written review for their coach. Reviews are tied to verified bookings so they're always authentic.

Is my payment information safe?

Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI Level 1 certified payment processor. We never store credit card numbers or bank account details on our servers. When you book a session, your payment is held securely until the coach completes the session — so you're always protected.
